Volunteer as a Family Day
Sunday, October 25, 2009
Performing community service together strengthens family bonds, while giving back to your community in a meaningful and fun way.
Show your family how important it is to think of others. These activities are appropriate for families of all ages and sizes!
Please call LYSB at 434-7208 to sign up for your choice of the following activities:
Leaves: We’ll be outdoors to rake leaves and help clean up yards of Lyme/Old Lyme senior citizens who are unable to do this strenuous work. One afternoon of your time will make a huge difference for an elderly person. Call LYSB to register for an assignment. Bring work gloves and a rake.
Families Fighting Hunger: Join us in the LYSB kitchen as we make holiday pies! We’ll provide the pie crust and tins, you bring the filling (canned). We will bake and freeze pies to be donated to holiday baskets for those in need. Call LYSB to register. October 25th, 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.
Trick or Treat: Children who live in local shelters, or are medically fragile are unable to trick-or-treat on Halloween. Make a “Halloween Fun Basket” with your family at home. Include candy, games, costume accessories, and a personal note. Bring your finished basket to LYSB on Sunday 10/25 from noon to 2:30 and we’ll deliver in time for Halloween. Or call to make other drop-off arrangements.
Crop Walk for Hunger: Walk as a family, bring your neighbors and friends, recruit a team! Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger needs. The walk begins from the First Congregational Church in Lyme at 2:00 p.m. and is a special way to spend the afternoon with your family. Call LYSB to register and get sponsorship materials. For more information about Crop Walk visit www.cropwalkonline.org
Food and Item Drive: Collect items for the New London Homeless Hospitality Center and the Shoreline Soup Kitchens. Needed items are powdered drinks (iced tea, lemonade, etc), non-perishable food items, canned meats, and toiletries. We’ll be here on October 25th from noon to 2:30 to accept your donations, or you can drop off during the week.
